5 tips for being inclusive with your environmental actions

learn + grow.

Stay curious, and educate yourself about different environmental issues and how they impact all communities - especially diverse communities.

There are so many resources available for exploration! Whether it is a good documentary, book, or podcast, dive in and learn more about communities outside of your own. Some places to start: The Intersectional Environmentalist: How to Dismantle Systems of Oppression to Protect People + Planet (book); This Land (short documentary); How to Save A Planet (podcast)

Communication is key.

Take the time to talk to people from differing backgrounds to hear and understand their perspective on environmental topics.

Listen actively, ask questions, and always keep the conversation open + respectful.

Support Inclusive Groups.

Find groups and organizations that put diversity and inclusion high on their priorities list. Supporting organizations that work closely with communities and promote fairness in environmental practices is crucial in uplifting inclusive groups.

You can support organizations in many different ways: volunteering with them, being their cheerleader (shoutouts on social media, to friends + family, etc.), becoming a regular donor, sporting their swag. Find the way that works best for you and help as best you can!

Get hands-on, locally.

You can get involved with amazing organizations right where you live! Engage with these organizations and their initiatives that foster inclusivity.

Volunteer with local organizations, attend local meetings, and team up with local organizations who are on the ground tackling local environmental issues.

Amplify diverse voices.

Use your platform - social media or within your community - to uplift marginalized voices. Share their stories, ideas, and initiatives for our environment.

Be a voice for inclusion + equality. The more stories we hear from different points of view, the more we can properly care for our people and planet!

yay for taking care of our people + planet!
